Rusty Water Possible During Well Maintenance

City residents may experience slight discoloration of water in Grinnell for the next two days. This is caused by iron in the water and is the result of maintenance city staff is performing on one of the wells located at the water plant.  Periodically wells need to be ‘cleaned’ and this can cause disruption of the aquafer. This maintenance is unrelated to the main break and subsequent boil order from last week.

The water is completely safe for all uses, including cooking and drinking.

Discolored water may impact washing laundry. If laundry does get stained domestic products are not usually effective in removing this stain. Do not dry stained laundry. A material, which is usually effective in removing stain, is available at the Water Treatment Plant or the City Offices. This material does not work well if stained laundry has already been dried. Persons doing laundry are encouraged to check the water before beginning the washing cycle.
