Des Moines Area Community College recently issued the following announcement.
Artists are encouraged to incorporate the ciLive! 13 ‘Go Boldly!’ theme into their designs
- The ciLive! Bottle Label Design Contest is held in conjunction with the annual ciLive! at DMACC speaker series.
- The deadline to enter this year’s contest is Feb. 13, and prizes will be awarded to the top-three designs in both the root beer and beer label design categories.
- The winning designs will also be featured on custom ciLive! 13 bottles produced by Court Avenue Brewing Co.
The ciLive! Bottle Label Design contest, which launched in 2020 and has received submissions from around the world each year, is a unique opportunity for artists to interpret and incorporate the ciLive! theme into an original design that will be featured on a custom ciLive! 13 bottle label produced by Court Avenue Brewing Co. in Des Moines. This year’s ciLive! theme is “Go Boldly!” and the contest will again include both root beer and beer label categories. Entries will be judged based on quality, originality, creativity and how well the ciLive! 13 theme is incorporated.
“The first two years of our ciLive! Bottle Label Design Contest were a great success, and together with our partners at Court Avenue Brewing Co., we’re excited to see the creative designs submitted by artists in 2022,” said ciLive! founder and DMACC West Campus Provost Dr. Anthony Paustian.
Speakers at ciLive! 13 will include both an actor and technical consultant from the “Star Trek” franchise, a SAG Award-winning stunt actor, a world-famous cyber security expert and ethical hacker, a conservation photographer and underwater journalist, the editor-in-chief of “Entrepreneur” magazine, the host of “NOVA Wonders” on PBS, a glassblower featured on Netflix, the former director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center and more (view all speakers).
ciLive! has been hosted by the DMACC West Campus in West Des Moines since the event’s inception in 2010. The West Campus began receiving national recognition for its modern approach to learning soon after campus construction was completed in 2001. Through partnerships with a variety of hardware and software developers, as well as providers of academic content, emerging technologies continue to be an integral part of the DMACC West Campus learning environment.
Contest categories, deadlines and prizes
The ciLive! Bottle Label Contest root beer label design category is open to anyone age 20 or younger, with parental consent required for entrants under the age of 18. Separately, the beer label design category is open to anyone age 21 or older with the exception of DMACC employees, who are not eligible to enter.
The deadline to submit artwork files by email to contest@dmacc.edu is 11:59 p.m. CST on Feb. 13. Submissions sent by postal mail must be postmarked no later than Feb. 9.
Entries will be reviewed by a panel of five ciLive! 13 judges on the criteria of quality, originality, creativity and incorporation of “Go Boldly!” theme. The judges will select the top six entries in each category (root beer and beer), and these finalists, along with the public, will be invited to attend an official awards ceremony during ciLive! 13 in March. The first, second and third-place winners in each of the two categories will be announced at this event.
Prizes will be VISA gift cards awarded in the following amounts: First place ($500), second place ($300) and third place ($100). Additionally, each first-place winner will be invited to enjoy a complimentary celebration dinner for themselves and one guest at Court Avenue Brewing Co. in Des Moines.
The winning artists and their designs from previous contests can be viewed online at contest.ci.live.
