The Board of Supervisors of Jasper County has stated that many of the members are fascinated by the many advantages of increasing high-speed internet access into the mostly rural county.
Supervisors of the county offered financial support and participation by offering to conduct a study that would reveal the region’s broadband requirements.
In cooperation with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the Central Iowa Regional Broadband Study will cost close to $338,940. Officials who are in charge of conducting the study had already collected close to $120,000 before the meeting took place.
Ten Iowa counties will be asked to furnish contributions.
“In the upcoming years, there’s probably not going to be anything more critical than high-speed internet service in terms of moving the economy of Jasper County forward — and, quite frankly, the economy of anywhere forward,” Jeff Davidson, executive director of JEDCO, said according to Newton Daily News.
David Maahs, executive vice president for the Greater Des Moines Partnership, agreed with Davidson.
“It’s really a critical essential service these days,” Maahs said.
