Ten Iowa counties received assurances from the Office of Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-Iowa) that they will get financial help by applying to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Individual Assistance Program.
Those counties were still reeling from a line of thunderstorms that caused extensive damage in early August.
One of the counties receiving help is Marshall County. Others scheduled to receive help were Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story and Tama counties,
Residents, who are in the 11 counties approved, may apply online or by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. TTY users can call 800-462-7585.
Reynolds had previously requested that 27 counties be approved for individual assistance. It was determined, though, that 16 of those counties did not have sufficient damage to be approved.
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program is no longer available in counties where the FEMA Program has been used.
