The Mahaska County Supervisors approved hiring a replacement sheriff's deputy and discussed the South Central Regional Airport Agency (SCRAA) action at their July 6 meeting.
Mahaska County Deputy Doug McMillan will retire from the sheriff's department in September and the Supervisors approved his replacement to be hired starting July 26 so there can be cross-training and field training of the new deputy, according to Oskaloosa News.
SCRAA Representative John Bandstra told the Supervisors about the most recent SCRAA meeting where the group decided to change the language of a resolution that would make a discussion between the Supervisors and the SCRAA necessary.
Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Groenendyk expressed his concern saying he didn't find a motion regarding the airport in any June 2013 meeting minutes.
Groenendyk also expressed concern about the language of recordings of properties. In response to his query about what agency requested eminent domain authority and where the public hearing was held, the SCRAA attorney explained that the language is common, eminent domain could have been used to purchase the property and the purchase price doesn't have to be disclosed.
