House Republicans continue to support the public safety of Iowa through multiple accomplishments that grant money to public safety areas and opposing ideas to abolish law enforcement, House Speaker Pat Grassley said on Facebook.
There are efforts by lawmakers that would defund and abolish law enforcement in the state, but House Republicans are working hard to oppose these efforts.
In addition, law enforcement and civil rights groups are endorsing bipartisan justice reform legislation passed by the Iowa House, according to the Facebook post.
House Republicans are calling for $125 million to go toward the state's COVID-19 response. They also put $2.4 million toward the Department of Public Safety to further support public safety in Iowa.
"House Republicans remain committed to Iowa’s law enforcement and public safety officers," Grassley said on Facebook. "We are proud of the legislation passed this session to fund, protect and support these heroes across our state who keep us safe."
