The Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A), a nonprofit that serves the needs of senior citizens in 18 Iowa counties, is partnering with a meal service called Mom’s Meals to provide meals to seniors in their homes.
Anyone 60 years old or older who is homebound and who resides in Poweshiek County can qualify for home meal delivery, the county’s website at poweshiekcounty.org stated.
An assessment of eligibility will be done by a NEI3A staffer and if an applicant qualifies, five home-served meals will be brought per week. Meals can be stored in a refrigerator and then heated in a microwave.
The value of each prepared meal is $8.10, but the service is provided free from federal funding. The program might be limited by the number of applicants applying, the county website noted.
During the COVID-19 pandemic emergency the NEI3A Senior Center located at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1224 East St. remains closed. For questions call 866-468-7887.
