Poweshiek County saw a 24.6% decrease in the number of households relying on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since 2015, according to Iowa's Department of Human Services.

Data shows that there were 518 households that relied on food stamps in 2024, in comparison to 687 in 2015.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly benefits to help low-income households buy food. The program is federally funded and administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

SNAP funds allocated to the county reached $1,940,121 in 2024, compared to $1,728,246 in 2015.

Statewide, Polk County recorded the highest number of households relying on SNAP, amounting to 24,656 in 2024.

Overall, there were 989 people who received SNAP aid in 2024, in comparison to 1,440 registered in 2015.

Since 2015, $19,722,197 has been allocated for Poweshiek County as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
