When City-wide Snow Removal Operations are in effect, vehicles MUST NOT be parked on the street until the street has been plowed full-width and snow removal operations are complete. If an illegally parked or abandoned vehicle creates a hazard to traffic, significantly impedes the ability to safely plow the street, or remains on the street 24 hours after snow removal operations are complete, the police department will attempt to make contact with owners of the vehicles. If no contact can be made with the registered owner of the vehicle, it will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.
When Downtown Snow Hauling Operations are in effect during the hours of 12 A.M. – 6 A.M., vehicles can be ticketed and towed. The police department will attempt to make contact with owners of the vehicles. If no contact can be made with the registered owner, the vehicle will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense. For downtown residents, parking in a City-owned parking lot during snow removal operations is permissible.
Private Property Snow Removal
If you are a property owner, you need to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks abutting your property within 24 hours after winter weather (snow or freezing precipitation) has ended. If you fail to do so, you may be subject to a nuisance violation. When removing ice or snow from your property, it is illegal to throw, push or place snow from private property, sidewalks or driveways onto or across public streets or into gutters. The only exception is for property owners in the downtown business district. Downtown property owners can deposit snow from their sidewalks into the street or adjacent to the curb before downtown snow hauling and removal operations begin.
