Food, friends, shopping and raising money for charity blend together for a night of fun at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
The annual Power of the Purse event, held Wednesday, October 13th, will auction off purses with 100 percent of the funds going to the United Way and its 34 programs. Last year the event was sold out within 2 weeks and so we added 50 more seats for this year’s event and within one week’s time we are nearly fully reserved.
Guests will be able to choose from purses donated by area businesses and members of the public in a silent auction and live auction format. Some popular designer brands to expect are Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Tory Burch.
The fundraiser will again be held at the Elmwood Country Club, with no membership required. Purses will be set up for viewing & bidding, and attendees can enjoy hors d’oeuvres such as Asian BBQ meatballs, veggies & hummus, cheese and fruit trays as well as Boursin stuffed mushrooms while they shop. Each ticket holder will receive a program containing details and more information about all the auction items upon arrival. A wine pull will also be an additional fundraiser for the evening where attendees can purchase a ticket for a bottle of wine and “pull” one during the event. Doors will open at 5:15pm with Social from 5:30 – 6pm. Live Auction to begin at 7pm.
We are still in need of practical or designer handbags and items that would pair well with them! Please reach out to shannon@unitedwaymarshalltown.org if you have purses or gift cards, etc. that you or your business would like to donate or call our office at 641-752-4688.
