The reconstruction of portions of Penrose and Summer Streets is scheduled to begin Monday, September 12th. The project was originally scheduled to begin on September 6th but has been delayed a week.
Penrose Street from 4th to 6th Avenues and Summer Street from 3rd to 6th Avenues will be reconstructed. The project is an inlay project. An inlay project involves leaving the curb and gutter section intact (other than stretches that need to be repaired/replaced) as well as driveways. The majority of the street is removed and a brand new street section between the curbs is built. The contractor, Manatts Inc., will begin on Penrose Street. Once the removals and preparation work before paving is completed, they will then move to Summer Street and start the same work. While this work on Summer Street is occurring, the paving will start on Penrose Street. Intersections of 4th and 5th Avenues will not be closed at the same time other than during the final paving step.
