Iowa Valley Community College issued the following announcement on August 12.
The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors learned about the District’s plans to address COVID-19 for the upcoming academic year. Chancellor Fisher affirmed that the community colleges in the state of Iowa are following the guidance set forth for the K-12 schools. The District is looking to balance health and safety precautions with individual freedoms and will be encouraging (but not requiring) vaccines and face coverings for faculty and students alike. Ellsworth Community College plans to offer vaccines on campus; Marshalltown will partner with local health officials to make vaccines available to those who are interested.
ENROLLMENT UPDATE
The Board received an update on enrollment numbers for the upcoming academic year. Currently, the District is ahead of 2020 enrollment, but many area high schools have not yet added concurrent enrollment students to the projected enrollment numbers yet. Marshalltown Community College and Ellsworth Community College are trending up with the number of students living in housing. Athletic participation continues to drive enrollment and housing for both campuses.
AGREEMENT WITH ACHIEVE MENTAL HEALTH, INC. AND TRANE CONTROLS
The Board approved an extension of the agreement between Achieve Mental Health, Inc. and Ellsworth to provide student counseling services to students at no charge. With this agreement in place, they will also offer Psychoeducational Class for $100 per credit hour. The Board also approved a proposal with Trane Controls for an updated control system and equipment at the ECC Dale Howard Family Activity Center.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for September 8, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
