Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 16.
America’s Largest University is the latest to partner with DMACC
WHAT:
Western Governors University (WGU) and DMACC will enter into a partnership agreement allowing DMACC students who have completed their associate degree to seamlessly transfer their credits to WGU to earn a four-year degree.
The agreement allows DMACC students to earn a bachelor’s degree in business, information technology, K-12 teacher education or health professions, including nursing, at WGU.
WHO:
Dr. Angie Besendorfer, Regional Vice President of WGU, and DMACC President Rob Denson will sign the transfer partnership agreement.
WHEN:
8:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 20.
WHERE:
The signing ceremony will take place virtually from the respective offices of Dr. Besendorfer and President Denson. To attend the virtual signing ceremony, via a Teams meeting, click here.
WHY:
WGU, a fully online, nonprofit university, offers DMACC students a competency-based approach to learning. This model allows for students to demonstrate their knowledge and quickly move through the material they already know and graduate faster, resulting in a savings of both time and money. WGU is the largest university in America with nearly 120,000 online students from across the nation. More than 38,000 WGU students earned degrees in 2019.
In addition, DMACC graduates enrolling in WGU will be eligible to apply for the university’s Community College Partnership Scholarships, valued at up to $2,500 each. The scholarships are open to DMACC staff and graduates and will go toward WGU’s already-low, flat-rate tuition of about $3,500 per six-month term.
