Cost of college went up for all students at Ellsworth Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.6 percent for 2018-19 at Ellsworth Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Iowa residents paid $4,776 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $120 more than the $4,656 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 19.6 percent more than residents this year, or $5,712. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $5,592 in 2017-18.

About 56 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Iowa residents. About 41 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 268 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.3 million and 187 students took out student loans totaling more than $970,775.

Including all undergraduates (796), 544 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.8 million, and 404 students took out $2.2 million in federal student loans.
