DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: PeopleService Awards DMACC Student First 'Difference Maker' Scholarship

Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on June 25.

Joshua Greufe to participate in DMACC’s new internship program

DMACC's new internship program is a collaboration with water and wastewater company PeopleService

Internship program will allow Greufe to work with a team of professionals in the sector, and become eligible to be certified in water and wastewater

Greufe, an Ames native, will also be eligible for job openings with PeopleService

Leading water and wastewater company PeopleService has awarded its inaugural Difference Maker Scholarship to a Joshua Greufe, a DMACC student from Ames.

Greufe is enrolled in the DMACC Water Environmental Technology Program and will begin his students in the fall. He will also participate in DMACC's new internship program, which is a collaboration with PeopleService.

As part of that program, he will work with a team of professionals in the sector, become eligible to be certified in water and wastewater, and gain first access to job openings with PeopleService.

“I'm very excited to learn how to succeed in this industry," Greufe said. “I'm looking for a career that allows me to be of service to the people of my community. Water treatment is so important, and water is one of the world's top required resources. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to play my part in keeping my community safe and healthy,"

PeopleService President Chad Meyer said it is important to encourage young people to enter the water and wastewaster industry.

“Every community needs clean and safe water and wastewater to keep people and the environment safe and thriving," Meyer said. "And they need smart, passionate people to run these systems. We are determined to encourage young people to choose this industry as a career path to enhance and protect our most precious resource."

When not studying, Greufe loves to play guitar, video games, pickleball and basketball. He is also a certified personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist and fitness nutrition specialist.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College, Minnesota

Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa

Fort Scott Community College, Kansas

Vermilion Community College, Minnesota
