Newton Public Library issued the following announcement on May 27.
Mayor Hansen Signs Emergency Proclamation; City Buildings Closed Through June 15
Mayor Michael L. Hansen continued the Emergency Proclamation for the City of Newton to keep City buildings closed to the general public through June 15, 2020.
The new proclamation does open City Parks to the general public on June 1, 2020. This includes park restrooms, playgrounds, shelter rentals, clubhouses, and sports fields. The Newton Municipal Airport will be open to flight crews, and general aviation, pilots and flight students.
Based on this new proclamation, the following changes have been made to City of Newton park shelters, playground equipment, the Summer Concert Series and recreation leagues:
Park shelter rentals will be limited to one reservation per day. Shelters will be cleaned by staff once per day.
Playground equipment will be open at City parks, but will not be cleaned or disinfected. Do not use if you or your children are sick, maintain 6 feet of distance with others not from your household, wash hands after playground use and face masks are strongly encouraged.
The Summer Concert Series at Maytag Bowl will have a shortened season; with performances on July 16 (Final 4 Band), July 23 (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), and July 30 (The Boys). More details about the performances, including social distancing measures, will be announced at a later date.
The Spring Adult Softball League was canceled but the summer season will start on June 23rd. More details about the league, including social distancing measures, will be announced at a later date.
